Electric Park Brake (EPB) is a caliper with an additional motor (motor on the caliper) that operates the parking brake. The EPB system is electronically controlled and consists of the EPB switch, the EPB caliper, and the electronic control unit (ECU). In recent years, with more and more car make constantly strive to make driving, as so Electric Parking Brake is becoming increasingly more common in new cars. It replaces the traditional handbrake lever with a button.
Electronic parking brake also called Electronic handbrake, works on the same basis but uses electric motors to achieve the effect. When the vehicle is at a standstill, the electromechanical parking brake is responsible for stopping it rolling away unintentionally. It also fulfils the legal requirement for a second, independent brake system in the vehicle as well as additional safety and comfort functions.
